Crystal Hefner Speaks Out
Crystal Hefner admits she was never truly in love with her late husband Hugh Hefner. The model lived in the Playboy Mansion from 2008 until Hugh died in 2017.
Marriage and Power
Crystal married the Playboy founder in 2012 when he was much older. She says she felt a very big power imbalance during their time together. Initially, she tried to like everything he liked to be the favorite. However, she admits she lost herself in that difficult process. “I realized I was dealing with a really big power imbalance,” she said. She acknowledges she loved him but was never actually in love.
Life Inside Mansion
The mansion looked like a fantasy on television to the public. But Crystal claims the house was actually run down and quite gross. She said too many parties made the famous building feel worn out. Meanwhile, Hugh allegedly controlled how the women looked at all times. He reportedly forced her to use neutral nail polish colors only. He also made her bleach her hair until it burned her scalp.
Secrets of Hugh
Hugh died at age 91 from sepsis in 2017. Before his death, he asked Crystal to protect his image. He told her to only say good things about him later. She used that request as the title for her new memoir. Finally, she describes the environment as one of toxic objectification.
Playboy Responds Today
The Hefner family no longer runs the famous Playboy company. The current organization says it is now 80 percent female. They want to build a future that reflects better values.
