Dad drowned baby in bucket of laundry detergent to ‘teach wife a lesson’

Some stories feel almost too painful to imagine, and this one has shaken an entire community. A young mother in Indiana is now grieving the loss of her baby boy after a violent act carried out by the child’s own father. The tragedy has left many wondering how a family’s life could change so quickly.

According to investigators, 29-year-old Eliasard Moneus caused the death of his three-month-old son, Jacob, during a domestic incident last August. Police say the father acted out of anger toward his wife and later attacked her as well. Officers discovered evidence of violence in the home before eventually locating the infant during a second search.

The turning point came in court, where prosecutors detailed how the father claimed he wanted to “teach his wife a lesson.” Judge Steve Meyer sentenced him to 92 years in state prison—62 years for Jacob’s death and 30 years for the attempted murder of his wife. The judge described the case as one of the most disturbing he had ever encountered.

Jacob’s mother survived the assault but suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull. She told officers her husband fled with their baby after the attack, leaving her terrified and unsure of her child’s safety. Police arrested Moneus the next day, though he initially denied knowing where his son was.

During sentencing, Moneus apologized through a French Creole interpreter, but the judge emphasized the gravity of the loss. The community continues to mourn baby Jacob, whose short life touched many hearts.

In moments like this, we are reminded how precious life is—and how deeply families depend on love, safety, and kindness.
