Music lovers around the world are mourning the loss of D’Angelo, one of soul’s greatest voices. The “Brown Sugar” singer passed away at 51 after a long fight with pancreatic cancer.
“The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,” his family shared. They described his passing as peaceful, surrounded by love from his son Mike Jr., who stayed by his bedside until the end.

Born Michael Eugene Archer in Richmond, Virginia, D’Angelo rose from gospel roots to global fame. Behind the spotlight, he struggled with fame and body-image pressures, often retreating from public life. “He was a recluse; he didn’t like going out,” a close friend said.
Tributes have poured in from across the music world. DJ Premier wrote, “Sleep peacefully D’. Love you, King.” His passing follows the earlier loss of Angie Stone, the mother of his son.
D’Angelo’s voice may be silent, but his music will live on — timeless, soulful, and unforgettable.
