Demi Lovato went back to she/her pronouns after getting ‘exhausted’ explaining they/them to people

Demi Lovato, 30, announced in May 2021 that they identified as non-binary and adopted they/them pronouns. However, in 2022, they returned to using she/her pronouns. Lovato explained on the Spout Podcast that their gender identity is fluid, feeling neither fully male nor female but simply human. They said, “Recently I’ve been feeling more feminine, so I’ve adopted she/her again.”

In a GQ Hype Spain interview, Lovato expressed frustration at constantly having to explain their they/them pronouns. They found it exhausting and eventually returned to she/her pronouns for comfort. They highlighted challenges faced by non-binary individuals, like Liv Hewson, who felt excluded from award categories and public facilities due to limited gender options.

Lovato hopes for change, advocating for more inclusive language on forms and in public spaces. They emphasized the importance of creating safe environments for personal growth, having found their own supportive community.
