A shocking case has rocked Tameside Hospital after consultant anaesthetist Dr. Suhail Anjum was caught having sex with a nurse while a patient was under anaesthetic. The 44-year-old doctor had left the operating theatre during surgery, asking another nurse to monitor the patient.

A colleague walked in and found Dr. Anjum and Nurse C in a “compromising position.” Witnesses told the tribunal the nurse’s trousers were down, while the doctor was tying his own. He returned to the operating room after about eight minutes. Thankfully, no harm came to the patient.

Dr. Anjum admitted the allegations, calling the incident “quite shameful.” He explained he had been under stress due to family struggles after his daughter’s premature birth. “I let down everybody, not just my patient and myself, but the trust,” he said.

The doctor left Tameside Hospital in February 2024 and moved back to Pakistan. The tribunal in Manchester is deciding whether he is unfit to practice.
