Most of us don’t think twice before shaving. Legs, armpits, even delicate areas — it’s all routine. But according to Doctor Mike Varshavski, one spot should always be left alone: your pubic region.
In a recent video, the YouTube-famous physician explained that shaving “down there” can actually make you more vulnerable — not cleaner. “There’s research showing higher STI rates among those who shave,” he said. “When you remove hair, you expose the skin, creating tiny tears where infections can enter.”

It turns out, that hair has a purpose. Experts say pubic hair protects sensitive skin, traps bacteria, reduces friction, and even carries natural pheromones — our body’s subtle signals of attraction. Dermatologist Katy Burris added: “Although people think removing it is more hygienic, it’s actually the opposite.”
So before you reach for that razor, remember — what’s natural often exists for a reason. Our bodies have spent millions of years perfecting protection, even in the most private places.
Maybe it’s time to rethink what “clean” really means — and trust that nature knows best.
