Fifteen-year-old Brett Jedwabny was power washing his home in Wisconsin when a tire suddenly exploded, sending shrapnel into his brain. His mother’s frantic 911 call and a fast-track brain surgery saved his life. Doctors didn’t expect him to make it through the night, but Brett defied the odds.
After emergency surgery and months in the hospital, Brett began a grueling 10-month rehabilitation journey. He relearned basic movements and speech through therapy in Milwaukee and Chicago. Though he still relies on a feeding tube and has limited mobility on one side, Brett steadily regained strength.

In May 2025, Brett came home to a heartwarming firetruck escort and a cheering crowd of family, friends, and first responders. “He knew to thank each and every one of them,” his father said proudly. His parents even remodeled the house to better support his recovery.
Now 16, Brett is reconnecting with school and enjoying life again—fishing, biking, and going to church. His dad summed it up best: “He doesn’t allow bad days.” Brett’s strength and spirit continue to inspire everyone around him.
