Elon Musk has officially left his short-term role in the Trump administration, ending his time with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aimed to reduce federal spending. Despite bold promises, the department faced lawsuits, rehiring setbacks, and public criticism.
At his farewell press conference, Musk sported a “Dogefather” t-shirt and a noticeable black eye. He explained it came from “horsing around” with his son X, joking, “I said go ahead and punch me in the face, and he did.” He also quipped, “I wasn’t anywhere near France,” referencing a viral video involving French President Emmanuel Macron.

Musk had earlier expressed disappointment in Trump’s latest budget bill, which increased defense spending and added tax breaks. On social media, he confirmed he wouldn’t extend his stay: “The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time.”
Though his temporary role has ended, Trump hinted at Musk’s continued involvement, calling him “terrific” and saying he’ll “always be with us.” Whether Musk returns officially or not, his time in Washington has left a memorable mark.
