Zachary was born on December 25, 2010, via surrogate in California.
Elton and David said they were “overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment.”
Later, Elijah arrived on January 11, 2013, via surrogate in Los Angeles.
They told Hello! magazine:
“The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way.”
Documentary focus
A deeper look came in the 2024 documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late.”
David co-directed it with R.J. Cutler.
In a September interview with People, David said:
“I don’t think it’s a conversation you want to have with your children. I don’t want to plant that seed in their mind”
Elton’s priorities
In the film, Elton said:
“I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know”
He added:
“So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around. Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
