Ever sliced an avocado and nearly sliced your hand too? You’re not alone — thousands do it every year.
ER doctor Joe Whittington says “Avocado hand is real — you crave guac, but end up with stitches.” It’s a warning backed by shocking numbers: nearly 9,000 Americans land in emergency rooms each year after trying to remove the pit.

Dr Joe’s advice? Hold your knife by the base, close to the handle, and gently stab the pit before twisting it out — never slice straight into it. “It’s not just about saving your toast, it’s about saving your tendons,” he joked, after his video went viral with grateful viewers.
And here’s a bonus tip — if your avocado turns brown, don’t toss it. It’s still safe to eat for up to two days; that color change is just natural oxidation.
A little care in the kitchen can save more than your breakfast — it could save your hand. 🥑
Would you try Dr Joe’s avocado trick, or do you have your own?
