Erika Kirk has spoken publicly about the painful reaction she has seen following the killing of her husband, political activist Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, a polarizing figure known for strong conservative views, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025. The attack happened at Utah Valley University while he answered a question about gun violence. He died from a single gunshot.
In the days that followed, the response was sharply divided. While supporters mourned, others reacted with hostility online. Some even mocked his death. Erika Kirk says those reactions have added to her grief.

In an emotional interview with CBS News, she condemned those who treated the killing as entertainment. She reminded viewers that her husband was a person, not a symbol. Moreover, she spoke of their young daughter, asking how anyone could justify such violence.
Erika also criticized what she called a growing lack of humanity online. According to her, constant exposure and distance have made it easier for people to forget compassion.
After her husband’s death, she stepped into a new role as chief executive of Turning Point USA, the organization he helped build. She has promised to continue his work and protect what he started. In a public statement, the group vowed to press forward rather than retreat.
Meanwhile, authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson two days after the shooting. Prosecutors have charged him with multiple serious offenses, including aggravated murder. He remains in custody without bail, and officials have confirmed they will seek the death penalty.
As the case moves ahead, Erika Kirk says her focus remains on family, faith, and calling for basic human decency.
