He was once the pride of Tampa Bay. Today, fans are mourning a life gone far too soon.
Former NFL running back Doug Martin, just 36, died after what police described as a “brief struggle” during a reported home break-in in Oakland, California. Officers say he appeared to be suffering a “medical emergency” before becoming unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

“It is with great sadness to inform you all that Doug Martin passed away Saturday morning,” his family shared. “Cause of death is currently unconfirmed.” Authorities continue to investigate, while the involved officers have been placed on leave, as protocol requires.
The beloved Buccaneers and Raiders star — remembered for his 2012 record-breaking rookie season — ran over 5,300 yards during his career. The Buccaneers said, “Doug made a lasting impact on our franchise.”
Gone far too soon, Doug Martin leaves behind a legacy of strength, heart, and determination that fans will never forget.
