Billions for Charity
Melinda Gates received a total payout of $76 billion. Much of this money helps women and struggling families. The settlement required $12.5 billion for these causes. A spokesperson says that Bill has fulfilled this agreement.
Leaving the Foundation
Melinda left the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2024. The group is now called the Gates Foundation. Melinda stated that she did not choose this lightly. “This is not a decision I came to lightly.” She is proud of the work they did together.
A Painful Split
The couple ended their 30-year marriage because it was not healthy. Melinda said they could no longer trust the relationship. However, Bill expressed disappointment over her leaving their foundation. “When we got divorced it was tough and then she made the decision to leave the foundation — I was disappointed that she took the option to go off.” Bill is still worth around $100 billion.
