A shocking medical case in Sweden has raised serious concerns after a baby girl developed significant genital changes due to accidental exposure to her father’s testosterone gel.
The infant experienced unusual hormone-related development after frequent skin-to-skin contact with her father’s bare chest—a common bonding practice. By 10 months old, her clitoris had enlarged, and her labia had fused, mimicking male genitalia. Blood tests revealed abnormally high testosterone levels.
Doctors traced the condition to the father’s use of a testosterone gel, a hormone replacement therapy (TRT) often prescribed for low energy or libido. The hormone transferred from his skin to the baby during contact. Once the father discontinued use and exposure stopped, the child’s testosterone levels normalized, and her anatomy returned to typical proportions.

Pediatric endocrinologist Professor Jovanna Dahlgren warns that this case is not isolated. With rising TRT use among men, she’s documented several similar incidents. Another case involved a boy growing breast tissue due to exposure to his mother’s hormone medication.
Experts stress the importance of proper hormone gel use. Users should wash hands thoroughly after application, let the product fully absorb, and avoid skin contact with children. Clothing should cover treated areas.
Following reported cases, UK regulators mandated warnings on testosterone products in 2023, urging parents to be cautious. If children show unexpected physical changes, medical attention should be sought immediately. Hormone therapies, even in small doses, can be dangerous when accidentally transferred.
