A routine stop at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Texas turned chaotic on August 1, 2023. A canine alerted agents to the trunk of a car driven by 26-year-old Kevin Dominguez. When officers discovered an undocumented person hidden inside, Dominguez suddenly reversed the car, struck a federal agent, and sped away.
He was quickly arrested and charged with assaulting a federal officer and transporting a person unlawfully. Prosecutors said his actions put both the agent and the hidden passenger at risk.
The injured officer recovered, but the court treated the incident seriously. Dominguez was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison followed by supervised release, with the judge emphasizing that such attacks on federal agents would not be taken lightly.
