The family of a 32-year-old anesthesiologist is suing a Dollar Tree store in Miami after she was found dead inside a walk-in freezer. Dr. Helen Massiell Garay Sanchez entered the store one evening and was discovered unresponsive the following morning in an employees-only area.

An autopsy determined that her cause of death was environmental hypothermia. Alcohol was listed as a contributing factor, with her blood alcohol level measured at 0.112 percent, above the legal driving limit. No drugs were found in her system. Medical experts note that alcohol can increase heat loss, which raises the risk of hypothermia.
Police reported no signs of foul play. Surveillance footage allegedly showed her entering the restricted area alone before the store closed. Authorities later stated the freezer door was not blocked and had an internal emergency release.

Her family has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $50 million in damages. The claim alleges that store management failed to take reasonable steps to locate or assist her after concerns were raised. The family is requesting a jury trial.
Dr. Sanchez, a mother of two, was visiting relatives in Miami at the time. Loved ones described her as a caring physician and devoted parent. The company has expressed sympathy and said it is cooperating with investigators.
