Five children have been rescued from shocking conditions after being locked inside a room described as a “dungeon.” Police in Redstone Township, Pennsylvania, arrested James Russell Kahl, 65, and Carly Kahl, 41, after discovering the abuse.
Authorities say the children, ages five to 14, were kept in a room with boarded-up windows, no beds, and filth on the walls. The door was locked from the outside with three deadbolts, and cameras were wired to James Kahl’s room. “Sadly, the children could not escape on their own,” officials explained.
When state troopers entered on August 8, they found the disturbing scene. The children were immediately removed and placed in the care of Pennsylvania’s Children and Youth Services. District Attorney Michael Aubele said, “We are very happy a family member came forward and reported this to us.”
The couple now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and child welfare violations. Investigators also found a stun gun, drugs, and surveillance equipment inside the home.
