No one could have imagined that a former Fox News anchor — once a familiar face on morning TV — would end up accused of something so unthinkable.
On Halloween morning, the quiet peace of a Wichita neighborhood shattered when Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, was arrested for allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death inside their home.

Police say they arrived after reports of a “cutting.” Inside, they found Avers unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds. Moments earlier, a blood-covered Mock had reportedly approached a neighbor, pleading, “Please call 911.”
The former anchor later told dispatchers she had “stabbed her mother to save herself,” sparking speculation of a self-defense claim that investigators have yet to confirm.
It’s a haunting contrast. Years ago, Angie Mock was a respected TV journalist — a warm voice that viewers trusted every morning. After leaving the newsroom, she built a career in corporate consulting, praised for her professionalism and charm. Now, she sits behind bars, charged with first-degree murder and held on a $1 million bond.

Neighbors are still in disbelief, struggling to understand how a life built on communication and community could descend into such horror. As one local said quietly, “You never really know what someone’s going through behind closed doors.”
