Gena Rowlands, ‘The Notebook’ Actress, Dead at 94

Gena Rowlands, renowned for her role as the older Allie in The Notebook, passed away on August 14 at her California home. She was 94. According to TMZ, her husband, Robert Forrest, and daughter, Alexandra Cassavetes, were by her side, with her son, The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes, also present earlier in the week.

Rowlands, who had three children with her first husband, John Cassavetes, married Forrest in 2012. Her death follows a recent revelation by Nick that she had been battling Alzheimer’s disease, the same condition portrayed by her character in The Notebook. “We lived it, she acted it, and now it’s on us,” Nick shared.

With 106 acting credits, Rowlands’ career included memorable roles in Hope Floats, The Skeleton Key, and Paris, I Love You. Her last credited role was in 2017’s Unfortunate Circumstances. The cause of her death has yet to be determined.
