A 16-year-old girl is in critical condition after being mauled by a dog in New South Wales.
Emergency crews rushed to a home on Broughton Street, Hunter Valley, around 11:30am Thursday. The teenager suffered severe injuries to her head, neck, and body. Passers-by bravely pulled the dog away before calling for help. She was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for urgent treatment.
The girl had been visiting a friend’s home when the 10-year-old dog suddenly attacked. Police later destroyed the animal with the owner’s consent. “I absolutely feel for everyone involved,” Singleton Mayor Sue Moore told ABC. “It’s just a terrible situation all around.”

Locals have praised the quick actions of bystanders who risked their own safety to save the girl. “They did a great job in what they could do,” Moore added.
This tragic event is a heartbreaking reminder of how unpredictable pets can be. It urges all families to remain cautious around dogs, no matter their age or history.
