Juliana Marins, 26, died after falling 500 meters into a volcano crater while hiking on Indonesia’s Mount Rinjani on June 21. The Brazilian tourist was traveling with a guide but became separated when she stopped to rest. When the group returned, she had already fallen.
Juliana had been texting her family throughout her trip. In one of her last messages, she wrote: “Mami, I love you so much… I’m not afraid. I was raised by a woman who can solve any problem.” Her messages reflected courage, love, and deep gratitude toward her family.
Her family believes Juliana could have been saved if rescuers had acted faster. “If the team had reached her within 7 hours, Juliana would still be alive,” they shared on social media. The Brazilian government is now calling for an investigation.
Juliana’s body was found on June 24 after four days of difficult rescue efforts. Her story has sparked heartbreak across Brazil and raised questions about safety and rescue operations on dangerous trails.
