On Sunday afternoon in Brentwood, a routine call for medical help sent firefighters and police to a home known for quiet wealth and long Hollywood ties. When first responders entered, they discovered filmmaker Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, dead. Investigators now treat the case as a homicide, and the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division has taken charge.

Authorities have released only limited information so far. They want warrants in place, and they want every detail documented. Still, law-enforcement sources told U.S. outlets that the couple suffered stab wounds. Police also say they have not searched publicly for additional suspects. Later reports said officers arrested the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, in connection with the deaths. The county medical examiner will determine the official cause.
For decades, Reiner helped shape how many of us remember the movies. He delivered wit in This Is Spinal Tap and When Harry Met Sally…. Then he raised the stakes with films like Misery and A Few Good Men. Michele built her own career, and she also supported his work behind the scenes.

Now, tributes replace box-office talk. The family has asked for privacy as Los Angeles mourns.
