Man Claims Share of Bondi Hero’s Cash
A Sydney man wants a share of the millions raised for Bondi hero Ahmed Al Ahmed. The two men once had a violent fight in a tobacco shop.
The Heroic Act
Ahmed Al Ahmed became a global hero during the Bondi Beach massacre in December. He disarmed a terrorist who had a shotgun. The hero was shot in the shoulder during the struggle. A GoFundMe page raised more than $2.5 million for him within days. Al Ahmed is now in the US for several media interviews.

A Past Conflict
Dan Degney says he had a punch-up with Al Ahmed last January. The fight happened at Al Ahmed’s tobacco shop in Sutherland. Degney felt the cigarette prices were too high. He admit he grabbed a stuffed toy and threw it into the road. Then, the two men had a bloody fight outside the store.
Legal Battle Details
Al Ahmed required hospital treatment after the confrontation. Degney was charged and fined $1,300 for the assault. A judge also issued an AVO against him. However, Degney claims Al Ahmed falsely accused him of shoplifting. “He may have saved all those people…but he owes me,” Degney told the media.

Demanding the Reward
Degney now wants a cut of the $2.5 million reward money. He plans to sue Al Ahmed for the AVO charge. Meanwhile, the hero continues his tour to meet with world leaders. Finally, Al Ahmed’s legal team has been contacted for a comment.
