A young father has shared his grief after losing both his girlfriend and their newborn baby within hours. Nineteen-year-old Mellodie Jarman collapsed suddenly while 33 weeks pregnant. Despite doctors’ efforts, she died shortly after an emergency C-section.
Her baby girl, Athena-Pearl, was delivered alive but died only hours later. Heartbroken dad Daniel Darbyshire said, “At the moment, I’m just lost and heartbroken.” In a final act of love, he placed his baby in Mellodie’s arms so they could take their last breath together.
Daniel described how doctors tried everything to save Athena, but her condition kept worsening. “We prayed she would make it, but her vitals were dropping,” he explained. Mellodie, described by family as “sassy, fun, and full of life,” had no known health issues. Doctors are still investigating the cause of her sudden death.
