Davina Licon was an aspiring bodybuilder when a masked man attacked her with acid outside a gym in Hawaii.

The Horrific Assault
On April 7, 2023, Licon left a Planet Fitness in Mililani. A man pointed a gun at her and threw acid. Licon suffered third-degree burns over 30 percent of her body. She spent three months in the hospital and survived five surgeries. Now 22, she had to relearn how to eat and walk.

Motivations for Violence
Police arrested Paul Cameron, then 21, for the brutal crime. Licon says they were friends, but he wanted a romantic relationship. She claims he was obsessive and loved bombed her for months. Licon believes he attacked her to take her physical attraction away. “I hope he gets life in prison because he sent me to prison.”

A Second Attack
While in jail, Cameron allegedly planned a second acid attack. He worked with Sebastian Mahkwan to target teacher Danying Zhang. They hoped a new attack would make Cameron appear innocent. In January 2024, Mahkwan threw sulfuric acid at Zhang near a gym. The acid caused Zhang’s lungs to collapse and left her unconscious.

Seeking Justice Today
Cameron faces multiple charges for attempted murder and assault. His trial is scheduled to begin on January 28. Licon plans to testify to help get justice for both survivors. “He’s willing to take someone else’s life just to save himself.” Finally, she wants to raise awareness so other predators do not win.
