ICE Agent Named in Shooting
The federal officer who shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis is Jonathan E. Ross. He is a 10-year veteran of the ICE ERO division.
Agent Identity Confirmed
Government officials did not want to release the officer’s name to the public. However, court filings and news reports confirmed Jonathan E. Ross as the shooter. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin stated that the officer followed his training. The Minneapolis Star Tribune also named Ross after reviewing court records. Ross has worked for the federal agency for at least a decade.

Violent Past Encounter
Ross survived a dangerous traffic stop in Bloomington on June 17, 2025. During that arrest, a suspect named Roberto Carlos Muñoz dragged him 100 yards. Ross had his arm trapped inside the car as the man accelerated. The agent sustained injuries to his arms and required 33 stitches. Muñoz was convicted of assaulting a federal officer in December 2025.
Official Defense of Ross
Vice President JD Vance recently defended the actions taken by Ross. He suggested that the agent’s past trauma influenced his response on January 7. Meanwhile, the DHS claimed that Good weaponized her vehicle during the operation. They stated that Ross feared for his life and the lives of others. However, local officials in Minneapolis are still demanding a full investigation.
