When Aurora Lofton left sunny Virginia for London, she expected rain — not wardrobes to match it. The 29-year-old management consultant says she was stunned to discover that British workwear seems to come in only five shades: black, grey, white, navy, and beige.
“I swear they all had a meeting,” she joked. “These are the colors, and that’s it!” Back home in the U.S., Aurora said offices were far from flamboyant, “but at least there was some life in the clothes.” Since moving to London, even her bright outfits have “never seen the light of day.”

Her viral TikTok struck a nerve with more than 60,000 viewers. Americans were baffled, while Brits mostly agreed — or begged her to “bring some color” to their streets. One joked, “Everything about the UK is just so dull,” while another explained, “It all starts with our school uniforms.”
Still, Aurora says she’s come to respect the minimalist aesthetic. “It’s simple, clean, and very British,” she said with a smile.

But maybe, just maybe, she’ll be the one to start a quiet color revolution — one pink blazer at a time.
