From a young age, it was clear my parents favored my sister, Madeline, over me. They celebrated her birthdays with big events while mine were small. I was often blamed for her misdeeds and left to fend for myself.
At 16, Madeline announced her pregnancy. Our parents, who adored her, were thrilled about the grandchild. However, Madeline wanted an abortion. “I’m just telling you so you can give me money for an abortion, Mom. I’m not going to keep it. It’ll ruin my life.” Despite her wishes, our parents convinced her to keep the baby, promising support that never materialized.
Madeline had her baby, Brandon, but reverted to her old ways, leaving me to care for him. Our parents offered no help, forcing me to drop out of school to raise Brandon. I worked part-time and studied online to get my G.E.D. Eventually, I moved out with Brandon and built a life for us. My boyfriend, Dallas, supported us, and his father helped me legally become Brandon’s mother.
Years later, Madeline returned, demanding Brandon back. “You can’t keep me from MY CHILD, Chloe. You’re the most horrible person in the world!” she screamed. With Dallas’ father’s legal help, I retained custody. Madeline and my parents tried to take Brandon, but their attempts failed. Madeline disappeared again, and I continued raising Brandon with love and support from my new family.
