University of Kentucky student Kate Kaufling, 20, known for her role in the dance team and her dedication to her studies, tragically passed away. According to her twin sister Abbey, Kate was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in June 2023. Despite her fierce battle and completion of chemotherapy, she succumbed to the disease on Sunday.
Kate’s coach, Dawn Walters, described her as an inspiration with a contagious smile. Sandy Bell, associate athletics director at the university, praised her as an outstanding student who will be deeply missed. In a heartfelt social media post, Abbey expressed her grief but found solace in having Kate as her guardian angel.
