Kate Kaufling, a beloved University of Kentucky student and dancer, has tragically passed away at just 20 years old.
A sophomore in the College of Nursing, Kate was known for her dedication both in academics and as a member of the UK Dance Team, where she performed alongside her twin sister, Abbey. Her coach, Dawn Walters, remembered her as “a joy to coach,” adding that her smile could “light up a room.”

Kate’s story touched many after she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma—a rare bone cancer—in June 2023. Despite months of intensive chemotherapy, she remained hopeful and positive, often sharing encouraging messages with her friends and followers. In her final Instagram post, she celebrated ringing the bell to mark the end of treatment, writing about gratitude, faith, and holding loved ones close.
Her passing comes just three months after completing chemotherapy. A GoFundMe page in her memory has raised over $97,000, a testament to how deeply she inspired those around her.
Kate is survived by her parents, Holly and Steve, and her twin sister Abbey. Her courage and warmth continue to shine through the lives she touched.
