Kate Middleton has spoken again about her cancer experience. The Princess of Wales called the period after treatment “really difficult.”
Diagnosis and early treatment
First, Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. She said she had major abdominal surgery in London in January 2024. Doctors first thought her condition was not cancer. However, tests after surgery found cancer, so she began preventive chemotherapy. Preventive chemotherapy means treatment to stop cancer returning.

Slow return to public duties
Next, Kate has taken a careful return to royal work. She was due to attend Royal Ascot in June with Prince William, but she did not go. A former royal spokeswoman said Kate is listening to her body and easing back. She completed treatment in September 2024 and said she was in remission in January 2025.
Finding a “new normal”
Also, Kate visited a hospital garden in Essex and spoke about recovery. She said people often stay brave during treatment, then expect normal life to return. However, she said the phase after treatment can feel hard and confusing. She added that guidance and someone to talk to is valuable. She said nature helped her feel at peace.

Finally, Kate said finding a new normal takes time and can feel like a roller coaster. She also confirmed her 2025 Christmas carol service will return at Westminster Abbey and air on ITVX on Christmas Eve.
