KCAL News Anchor Chauncy Glover’s Cause of Death at 39 Revealed: ‘So Tragic’

Over three months after his sudden passing at 39, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed on February 19 that KCAL news anchor Chauncy Glover died from acute intoxication due to the combined effects of chloroethane and methamphetamine. His death was ruled an accident.

Fans expressed shock and sorrow. One wrote, “So tragic, he was a great news anchor, RIP 💔🥺🙏🏻.” Another said, “There is no way I believe this. Had to be unknowingly [sic].” His parents, Sherry and Robert Glover, shared, “He was more than a son and brother—he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community.”

A Career of Impact

Glover joined KCAL in October 2023, previously working in Georgia, Florida, Michigan, and Texas. His passion for journalism started early—his father built him a mini anchor desk at age five. His storytelling and community work earned him three Emmy Awards, as well as recognition from President Barack Obama.

The Chauncy Glover Project

Beyond journalism, Glover dedicated himself to mentoring young men through “The Chauncy Glover Project” (CGP). His family stated, “His talent, warmth, and vision left an imprint on everyone who knew him.” The program has helped over 350 young men pursue higher education and mentored more than 1,000 individuals.

A Cherished Friendship

Glover shared a deep friendship with fellow journalist Mayra Moreno. Devastated by his passing, she posted, “An unexpected loss. My heart is broken.” She recalled their years working together, their inside jokes, and his support, writing, “Now I’m just broken that he didn’t even get to make it to his 40th birthday!”

Though his death was tragic, Glover’s legacy lives on through his impactful journalism and dedication to the community.
