Rittenhouse had traveled from Illinois to Kenosha, saying he intended to help protect local property. He carried a semi-automatic rifle. During confrontations that night, two men were killed and a third was wounded. From the beginning, Rittenhouse maintained he acted in self-defense.
In November 2021, a jury agreed. He was found not guilty on all counts. His legal team later said he felt deep relief, while also wishing the events had never happened.
