Celebrity chef Anne Burrell, best known for hosting Worst Cooks in America, died on June 17, 2025, at her home in Brooklyn. On July 24, the New York City Medical Examiner confirmed her cause of death as suicide due to acute intoxication from amphetamine, alcohol, and antihistamines.
Burrell’s husband, Stuart Claxton, found her unresponsive in the shower, surrounded by pills. He believed she suffered cardiac arrest and called 911, but paramedics could not revive her. Since the findings, Claxton has remained silent.

Burrell, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, built a respected career in food television. She appeared on Iron Chef and led Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. In 2020, she married Claxton and became a stepmother to his son.
Known for her energy and bold personality, Burrell inspired many in and out of the kitchen. “She was a strong, vibrant woman who loved her craft,” said a close friend. Fans and colleagues continue to honor her legacy in the culinary world.
