Lily Allen has spoken openly about her past experiences with contraception and abortion during a conversation on her podcast with longtime friend Miquita Oliver.
The 40-year-old singer said that before using long-term birth control, she became pregnant frequently and struggled to manage contraception. She explained that she now uses an IUD, which has brought stability to her health and life.

During the discussion, Allen admitted she cannot recall the exact number of abortions she has had, estimating it may have been four or five. She described her comments as honest rather than flippant, saying women should be able to talk about these experiences without shame or judgment.
Allen also reflected on how society often pressures women to justify their reasons for ending a pregnancy. She stressed that not wanting a child at a particular time should be considered a valid reason on its own, without needing medical or dramatic explanations.
Her comments sparked wide debate online, but Allen maintained that openness helps remove stigma. She said silence and embarrassment only reinforce outdated attitudes toward women’s reproductive choices.
Now a mother of two, Allen said her views come from lived experience. She believes honest conversations can help normalize topics many women quietly deal with, and hopes more people will approach the subject with empathy rather than criticism.
