A major police operation unfolded in Sydney’s inner-west after an active shooter was reported Sunday evening. Authorities rushed to Croydon Park around 7:45 p.m. following gunfire reports, with roads immediately shut down and locals told to stay indoors.
Police confirmed they arrested a man in his early 60s around 9:30 p.m. on Georges River Road. Several firearms were seized from the scene. Witnesses claimed shots were fired from a rooftop near a McDonald’s, striking multiple cars—including a police vehicle. One man, aged in his 50s, was treated for a gunshot wound, while three others sustained minor injuries.
Helicopters circled overhead as officers used an armored vehicle to contain the threat. “We were told to lock our doors and stay inside—it was terrifying,” one resident said.
By late evening, the situation was under control, but the community remained shaken. Many online users voiced growing fears about rising gun violence in Sydney, calling for stronger public safety measures.
