Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known as Theo Huxtable from The Cosby Show, has died at 54. The actor tragically drowned while swimming at Playa Grande, Costa Rica, on July 20, 2025. Strong currents swept him away, and despite efforts from bystanders and the Red Cross, he could not be saved. He is survived by his wife and young daughter, whose identities he kept private.
Warner became a household name for his role as Theo in The Cosby Show (1984–1992), appearing in 197 episodes. “I’m proud of the legacy and being part of such an iconic show,” he said in 2023. He later starred in Malcolm & Eddie, Reed Between the Lines, and had roles in Suits, Grown-ish, and 9-1-1.

Born in New Jersey, Warner lived a private life away from Hollywood. He was also known for his past relationship with actress Michelle Thomas, who died in 1998. Warner once described her as the love of his life.
Fans and colleagues remember him as a talented actor and devoted family man. His sudden passing leaves a lasting void in television history.
