Marlo Thomas shared a heartfelt message on Instagram following the death of her husband, TV legend Phil Donahue. On August 19, Thomas posted a nostalgic photo and expressed her sorrow, stating, “I lost my sweetheart last night.” She announced a temporary break to focus on healing and thanked everyone for the “beautiful messages of love and support.”
Reflecting on Donahue’s deep connection with his audience, Thomas said, “I know he would be very touched by the heartwarming thoughts and memories you’ve been sharing.” She also encouraged others to cherish their loved ones as she had with Phil.
Phil Donahue, a pioneer in daytime talk shows, passed away at 88 after a long illness. His family confirmed his death, noting he was surrounded by loved ones and his golden retriever. His legacy includes the groundbreaking “Phil Donahue Show” and receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in May 2024. Instead of flowers, the family requested donations to the Phil Donahue/Notre Dame Scholarship Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
