Melania Trump breaks political protocol during major White House event

On May 19, President Donald Trump signed the Take It Down Act into law, targeting online sexual exploitation, including AI-generated deepfakes. In a rare move, First Lady Melania Trump also added her symbolic signature—breaking political protocol.

The new law makes it a federal crime to knowingly share intimate images without consent. Social media platforms must now remove such content within 48 hours and prevent its reappearance. Melania, a key advocate, called it a “national victory” to protect children from AI and online harm.

“AI and social media are the digital candy for the next generation… But unlike sugar, these technologies can be weaponised,” she warned. President Trump praised her work: “Honey, you’ve done amazing… and you got it done.”

Melania’s involvement continues her Be Best campaign, focused on children’s well-being and digital safety. The White House confirmed she met with lawmakers, survivors, and advocates to help push the bill forward.

With this act, Melania takes an unprecedented step in defending victims’ rights—showing that leadership can come from outside official titles.
