The White House turned spooky this Halloween — but not everyone agreed on whether it was a treat or a trick.
On October 30, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania opened the South Portico for their annual Halloween celebration. Children of military, law enforcement, and foster families arrived in costume to collect Hershey bars and Twizzlers stamped with the presidential seal. Laughter mixed with spooky music as the couple greeted guests under glowing pumpkins and autumn leaves.
But while some called Melania’s fall décor “elegant” and “beautiful,” others weren’t so kind. Online critics mocked it as “tacky” and compared it to “a school craft fair.” One wrote, “This is the best they could do?” while another teased, “Great use of my taxes.”
Still, many fans defended the First Lady’s taste. “So nice to have classic decorations at the White House,” one user commented. “It looked warm and festive — just what Halloween should be.”
