Boxing champion Anthony Joshua was injured in a tragic car crash in Nigeria on 29 December. Two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, lost their lives in the accident.
Matchroom Boxing confirmed that the men who died were Joshua’s “close friends and team members.” Ayodele worked as his personal trainer, and Ghami served as his sports rehabilitation coach. Both were part of Joshua’s regular support team and had been with him for years.

The crash happened on the busy Lagos–Ibadan expressway. Joshua was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a parked truck. Local authorities said the vehicle was speeding and lost control while overtaking. Emergency crews arrived within minutes, but Ghami and Ayodele died at the scene.
Joshua was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries. Matchroom Boxing said he is stable and under observation. Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed they are in contact with Joshua and awaiting more details.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash. Fans and the boxing community have shared messages of support as Joshua recovers and mourns his two friends.
