The BBC has apologised after a racial slur was shouted during the BAFTAs while Michael B. Jordan was on stage.
The outburst came from a Tourette’s campaigner whose condition includes coprolalia — an involuntary symptom that can cause sudden offensive language.
Host Alan Cumming explained that the words were not intentional but part of Tourette syndrome. The BBC later issued a formal apology.
Online reaction was divided, with some showing understanding and others condemning the language.
The incident briefly overshadowed the night’s celebrations.
