Michelle Obama has once again addressed rumors that she might run for president, firmly rejecting the idea despite years of public speculation. During an event in Brooklyn, where she spoke with Tracee Ellis Ross while promoting her new book The Look, the former first lady explained why she has no plans to enter the race.

She said the country is still not prepared to elect a woman to the White House. Pointing to Kamala Harris’ recent loss to Donald Trump, Obama remarked that Americans “aren’t ready,” adding that too many men still struggle with the idea of being led by a woman. Her message echoed comments she made years ago when she insisted she would never run, even during Barack Obama’s second term.
Obama also shared broader concerns about the nation’s direction. Earlier this year, she said that immigration policies from the Trump era continue to trouble her. While she acknowledges her own safety and security, she remains worried for her daughters, Malia and Sasha, and for people of color across the country who face discrimination and bias. She said the thought of vulnerable communities lacking strong advocates “keeps her up at night.”

Although she has no interest in pursuing the presidency, Obama’s voice remains powerful. She continues to influence national conversations through her books, interviews, and public appearances, and many expect her to remain an important figure in American life for years to come.
