A heartbreaking discovery has ended a month-long search for a missing Sacramento mother and her baby. Whisper Owens, 32, and her eight-month-old daughter, Sandra, were found dead inside a submerged SUV in Northern California.
Search teams located the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer on August 17, using sonar near Highway 120 and Victory Avenue. Both mother and child were inside. Officials said Whisper appeared to have tried protecting her daughter in her final moments. “The pain is unimaginable,” her brother Richard said. “We will never stop loving them.”
Whisper vanished July 15 after a doctor’s visit in Fresno. Surveillance cameras captured her traveling home, but she never arrived. Family and police searched tirelessly, retracing her path, distributing flyers, and sharing updates online. Weeks of uncertainty left loved ones desperate for answers.
Now, the family is grieving but also grateful to the search teams and community for their support. As Richard shared, “At least we no longer have to wonder—we can finally say goodbye.”
A tragedy that reminds us how fragile life can be, and how deeply love endures.
