Fourteen-year-old Jacob Calland died after jumping on the back of a friend’s e-scooter on March 19 in Manchester. They weren’t wearing helmets and collided with a car. “He flew onto the opposite side of the road and landed in front of oncoming traffic,” his mum Carly shared. Jacob suffered a severe head injury and died eight days later.

Carly, who had warned Jacob about e-scooters, shared an emotional video titled Jacob’s Journey, which includes Ring footage of his final moments before the crash. The clip shows Carly’s messages to Jacob during his time in hospital, including: “Your heart stopped beating!!… you suffered a septic shock… I knew you wasn’t well.”

Devastated, Carly is now campaigning to make e-scooters safer. She’s calling for age limits, mandatory helmets, licenses, insurance, and a ban on passengers. Her petition has over 6,700 signatures.

“I don’t want any other family to go through what I’m going through,” Carly told Manchester Evening News. “Let’s put rules in place to make them safer.”
