Three-year-old Daniel Twigg tragically died after being attacked by two large dogs at a farm in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. During a desperate 999 call, his mother, Joanne Bedford, told emergency services her son had been “ripped to pieces.” Daniel suffered fatal injuries to his head and neck and died later in hospital.
The attack happened on May 15, 2022, when Daniel entered a pen where two powerful dogs, Sid and Tiny, were kept. CCTV footage showed the toddler alone moments before the violent attack began. One dog was later shot by authorities.

Daniel’s parents, Mark Twigg and Joanne Bedford, now face charges of manslaughter and offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act. Prosecutors allege the child was left unsupervised and exposed to a clear risk. Both parents deny any wrongdoing.
The defense claims the dogs were not owned by the couple and that Daniel had to actively unlock the pen gate. The court also heard of prior police reports involving the animals. The trial continues, with the family under intense scrutiny.
