Honeymoon Tragedy in Jamaica
A Texas woman is sharing her story after her husband died just 50 days after their wedding. He caught a bacterial disease while swimming on their honeymoon.
A Rapid Romance
Elizabeth Diamond, 51, met her husband Chris through a dating app. They moved in together and got engaged within two weeks. The couple wed in November 2017 in their new front yard. They then jetted off to a five-star resort in Jamaica. Elizabeth said they were very excited about their future together.

The Fatal Excursion
On their last day, they visited a swimming spot called Blue Hole. The hotel excursion center recommended the trip to the couple. Elizabeth noticed the water looked muddy and brown from recent rain. Chris jumped into the water from a high, closed-off area. However, he started feeling sick only two days after returning home.

A Sudden Decline
Chris soon developed flu-like symptoms and stomach issues. Later, his skin and eyes turned yellow as his organs failed. Doctors found he had leptospirosis from contaminated water. This disease often spreads through the urine of infected animals. He was put on life support but died shortly after.

Warning to Travelers
Elizabeth now tells his story to prevent more senseless deaths. She urges travelers to research their destinations and stay educated. “My warning to others is research before you go anywhere,” she said. Finally, she has started a podcast to help others through trauma.
