New doc on horrific Idaho murders finally answers the one thing everyone wants to know

Nearly three years after the brutal murders of four University of Idaho students, Bryan Kohberger has officially pleaded guilty. On November 13, 2022, Kohberger entered the off-campus home at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho, and fatally stabbed Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—all in their early 20s.

Two other roommates, Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke, survived and were reportedly unaware of the killings as they happened. A new Amazon docuseries, One Night in Idaho: The College Murders, offers an emotional look into the aftermath through firsthand accounts from friends, family, and survivors.

The series reveals chilling new details, including how survivor Dylan contacted friend Hunter Johnson after hearing unsettling noises. Johnson entered the house, discovered the gruesome crime scene, and called 911, initially describing the victims as “unconscious”—a move that puzzled many and drew suspicion from internet sleuths.

However, the documentary clarifies that Johnson used that term to shield others from witnessing the horrific scene. Friends credit him with protecting the group from further trauma.

Kohberger pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and one count of burglary on July 2, 2025, avoiding the death penalty. His sentencing is scheduled for July 23.
