Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson has revealed that Donald Trump once invited her on a date. Speaking at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, she recalled the unexpected call in 1998 while filming Primary Colors.
“It was Donald Trump,” Emma said. “I thought it was a joke. Then I realized my divorce had just gone through — maybe he was looking for a nice divorcee.” She joked that saying yes might have “changed the course of American history.”

At the time, Trump was ending his marriage to Marla Maples, while Thompson was recovering from her split with Kenneth Branagh, which followed his affair with actress Helena Bonham Carter. Despite the heartbreak, Emma later said the experience helped her portray emotional roles, adding, “All was fine between us — we made our peace years ago.”
Today, Thompson is happily married to actor Greg Wise. All parties have since moved on, but the story remains one of Hollywood’s most surprising “what if” moments.
