The Hunt family, owners of the Kansas City Chiefs, is grieving the devastating loss of 9-year-old Janie Hunt, who was swept away by flash floods while attending Camp Mystic in Wimberley, Texas. She was one of several children killed in the deadly storm that overwhelmed the Hill Country region.
Janie’s mother confirmed her passing, while Tavia Hunt shared on Instagram: “Our hearts are broken by the devastation… including a precious little Hunt cousin, along with several friends’ little girls.” She also reflected, “How do we trust a God… who allows such terrible things to happen – even to children?”
Family members honored Janie’s life, remembering her joy and the love she received from her parents. Just days before, a video showed her dancing and laughing at camp — a memory now turned into a tribute.
As the search continues, stories of survival bring small relief. One camper, Lainey Landry, has been found safe. But in Wimberley, grief and prayers remain, as families cling to hope and the memories of their beloved children.
